Stretch developed an award-winnning interactive experiential campaign to support THE SUN’S BIG SMILE GIVEAWAY campaign.
January 2014 saw the return of the Sun Newspaper’s ‘SUN BIG SMILE GIVEAWAY’ – a month-long media and experiential campaign to get Britain smiling at a traditionally gloomy time of year.
In conjunction with in-paper Sun Big Smile Giveaway activity, The Sun toured the country during early January, giving away big smiles through random acts of kindness.
The tour comprised City Centre experiential activity in London, Cardiff, Manchester, Newcastle and Glasgow.
Stretch designed and built The Smile Vending Machine. A huge 3m high fully branded bespoke Vending machine pod was placed in City Centres in high footfall high streets manned by The Sun Big Smile Squad. The Sun Big Smile Squad hosted the activity and interacted with the public to build participation in the opening of the smile vending machine.
As the public approached they were invited on-screen to perform a Big Sun Smile task – something simple but funny to make us laugh.
Examples are:
– Do a twirl like a ballerina
– Do the robot dance
– Sing a song
– Snort like a pig for 30 seconds
– Hug the person behind you
– Suck your thumb and cry like a baby
– Laugh like a Bond villain
By completing the task, the vending machine lit up and burst into laughter delivering a prize through its mouth.
Prizes included big-ticket items and small fun items, all with the purpose of giving our prize-winners a big free Sun smile this January.
Other stunt activity was executed simultaneously throughout the city delivering unexpected acts of kindness to the public and Sun+ members.
This included bus stop posters with a message to tweet ‘Pick me up’ with the hashtag #SunBigSmile. One lucky person was collected in a stretch limo for the day.
Sun+ members were also visited by a Sun Big Smile host in The Sun camper van and given a special prize.
