Stretch developed a series of creative music and media workshops as part of Trident’s anti-gun crime campaign to 13-15 year old Afro Caribbean men. Working with Youth Services in 5 target Boroughs, PRU/YOT/YIP candidates were selected to attend a taster day hosted by high profile role models from partners, Kiss, Choice & MTV. Local mentors were hired to deliver content incl: making beats,creating lyrics, production, recording, and creative multi media techniques for artist web sites and CD covers. Trident Officers delivered anti-gun messages & positive exit route opportunities. Content was posted on ‘droptheweapons.org & visits to Kiss and Choice organised for those who engaged positively. Research results: 65% rated the events, 88% said it helped self esteem/confidence/communication. It helped breakdown post code issues; local mentors continue to work with attendees, post event radio studio tours and work placement opportunities.
