EDF Energy ‘Green Britain Day’ is a focal point for people to take action towards a more sustainable lifestyle. As an annual event, the day aims to inspire the nation to work together to lower Great Britain’s carbon footprint by the 2012 Olympic Games. In 2009/10, as part of the national radio and online campaign, Global Radio appointed Stretch to create and deliver 20 public ‘green summer fete’ events across the UK on the day. In city centres and parks and shopping centres around the uk the events created an atmosphere based on environmentally friendly alternatives, covering lifestyle, travel, home&garden and food. Activities included ‘grow your own’ garden area, ‘reuse old news’ – creative uses for old newspapers, cycle surgery, swap shop, green games, local food producers and a Heart FM chillout zone. A combined radio and online campaign reached over 9 million running up to Green Britain Day with over 7,000 people interacting directly with the events across the UK.
